Rep. Cavitt’s office can help students navigate FAFSA process

State Rep. Cam Cavitt on Monday encouraged students working through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) process to contact his office if they face problems.

FAFSA has been ridden with problems this year as students have faced several delays in finalizing their applications. The deadline to complete the FAFSA is June 30. Nearly all universities and colleges require a completed FAFSA before considering a student application.

“Our backward system requires students to see if the government will give them free money before they can even apply to schools,” said Cavitt, R-Cheboygan. “Now that same system is running so far behind that kids are afraid they won’t make the deadline to apply to their dream schools. My office is ready to do whatever it can to help students through the application process and fight the ongoing delays.”

Eligibility for federal student aid is primarily based on financial need. Other factors such as enrollment status, degree program, and citizenship status also play a role. Students must meet certain criteria to qualify for different types of aid.

Cavitt’s office is prepared to help students navigate the process if they are struggling with the application or are experiencing delays. His office can also connect students with additional resources and support services, including scholarships, grants, and other financial assistance programs.

Students looking for help can call Cavitt’s office at 517-373-0833 or email [email protected].
